STATEMENT
The world IS an unplanned accident due to Grendel's accidental death. He could've beat Beowulf in that fight, had he known he was awake and that there was blood on the floor. His accidental death, however, brought good. This is because he had left the meaningless world. You can even support that everything is meaningless with the fact the Shaper bends the truth to make things look meaningful. However, with the death, you can tell that everything had no meaning because after all that he had done, he had ended up dyeing. Not only this, but the dragon, Ork, and Beowulf had agreed that time kills everything. Making an end to all humans and even with a cycle, the evil is recreated making the past very irrelevant. The dragon makes some strong points such as he knowing everything and that he sees the world coming to an end and says "seek out gold and sit on it" (pg. 74). Grendel also pointed out that his struggle for acceptance and that religions were just mere deceptions. Also, the bull made a strong point as it had attacked Grendel in the same place over and over and had not tried to kill him. "Perhaps I did sleep, I don't know. I must have. Nothing mattered." (pg. 22). This shows Grendel's belief in Solipsism. This is him believing in himself only and everything else is just his own thought so it made the things disappear after he had stopped thinking about it. Hrothgar's family also only cares about his gold and how rich he is, not really how much they love him. Showing how ruined the world is and how meaningless it is.
LETTER REFLECTION
After reading this letter, I had learned a lot about what the opposition could say and also what the author himself had thought about the philosophies within the book. I had learned the entire purpose and what type of message that he was trying to send with the usage of the characters. The characters were trying to help explain the meaning of life and how he even slightly makes fun of the people in the past. I also found out that he doesn't really believe in one characters thoughts and actions. However I do believe this letter is a bit uncanny and odd because of his very deep thought.
I learned about what the opposition might bring up during our trial and had also learned something important about the Shaper that he had added in the book. That he manipulates the truth to make Hrothgar and the people great and glorious. Not only this, but with Grendel and his death. He shows that the accidents can also conclude to a good part because he is leaving the meaningless world.
